Your Influence Counts...

... Use It!

That was the closing line from a legendary New York radio talk show host, Bob Grant. He was very vocal when it came to his conservative views, but his closing line has such great meaning for everyone- especially Christ followers!

Bob passed away recently, and in reading his bio, that phrase stuck out. We often stand on the sidelines, and not say a word. But think of the greatest influence on all of our lives- Jesus Christ. Shouldn't we be influencing others in our positive actions and words?

Paul writes in his first letter to Timothy-

...Set an example for the believers in what you say and in how you live. Also set an example in how you love and in what you believe. Show the believers how to be pure.- 1 Timothy 4:12

Over the last couple of years, I have personally decided to get "off the bench and onto the court" in my actions and words as a believer. I am learning that God just doesn't call us to take what He gives us, we must set the example for others to see through our words and actions.

A couple of points to think about-

Words - Are your words influencing others in an encouraging light? Are you one to just spew whatever comes to mind on social media? Or are you carefully using your words that, while still getting your point across, do not denigrate or anger others? Does gossip flow out of your mouth?

Actions- Are your actions influencing others? Do you reach out to those in need through your time and your talents? Are those around you (children, non-believers) seeing your actions? Do you think your actions are making a difference?

You may need to reach out on a regular basis for your positive influence to truly have an effect on others. Don't give up after just one time. But make some kind of a difference!

Your influence can and does count! Use it!

Strong Enough...

A new feature for The Joy FM blog! I will share with you the full story each week of our Joy FM Song Story.

This past Saturday's Joy FM Song Story was from Brad Jubin...

The song "Strong Enough" carried me through my 8 months of training and then to the summit of Aconcagua in Argentina. I recently led the Hudson Family Foundation Climb for Kids. At nearly 23,000 feet, Aconcagua is tallest mountain in the southern and western hemispheres and took more than 15 days to climb. I knew I wasn't strong enough on my own. Matthew West's song "Strong Enough" became my anthem and inspiration to abide in our Lord. We raised money and awareness for HFF and safely returned home. Thank you God!!!

Here is the video from that climb, along with the song from Matthew-
